help me out with some pricing.. 2 Years, 5 Months ago Karma: 0
alright so like many photographers i'm having a hard time putting a price on my photos..
theres a local clothing company here in town i guess they are starting to do well in colorado as well..
anyways i have filmed and edited some bmx web vids for about $300 per web vid, the guy in charge was asking about some photos that i have of his team riders
can you guide me on some prices to charge
i think what he wants is unlimited rights reserved
but wouldn't it be smarter for me to charge by what he is using the images for.
i think for now he mainly wants the images for myspace, probably later a website and more into the future magazine advertisements and what not

so what would you charge per photo or how should i go about this?
any thoughts would be great!

here's a sample of some of the (older) photos he would be interested in buying i've got some better shots just don't have time to resize and upload...

nice shots dude, i wish i knew some bmx'ers to shoot with!

anyway, as far as them buying the photo's outright, that's typically very expensive to do as they can take the photo's and do whatever they want with them. therefore, the pricing would reflect that.

if it were me, i would strongly encourage asking the 'guy in charge' what he wants to use them for, where, how, size, all the info, and price your shots accordingly. i would also make it very clear to him that the photo's you are selling him are only to be used where he claims he will be using them, NOWHERE ELSE. also, spell that out as clear as day on your invoice when you put that together too. it will help you out immensely if you, say, need to get a lawyer later on if things turn sour. (trust me)

i can't really give you an exact price as i don't know where or how the guy in charge wants to use them, so that's the first you'll want to find out. meanwhile, i'd think about buying fotoquote if you haven't already :: www.cradocfotosoftware.com/fotoQuote-Pro/index.html

let us know what he says

yeah definitely sell them to him for web usage, then in the future when he wants to use them for something else, sell them for that.. chances are in the future he'll want newer photos anyways though.

yeah you guys confirmed what i was thinking about just selling the images for web ussage,

and chip right now he mainly wants shots for the clothing companies myspace/future website..
i had always heard of fotquote on W&W, how helpful is it to bmx related photographers, i watched a short video on it and the print quote tool looked pretty helpful in getting an invoice together and stated all the rights

what would be a normal price for web right images for bmx/skate companies..i really don't know what that market calls for, haven't sold photos this way before.
i'm pretty sure able, the guy in charge doesn't have any other options as there really aren't many 'action sports' photographers around here, for some reason he got a quote from this wedding photographer (to compare to my price)which i would guess charges thousands of dollars just to come shoot for a day..
