Action Sports Cartel

This ones not a land but its close so we're heading back soon. There's a few things that frustrate me about this shot. First off there's not enough light to give him separation on the pants. And Second, the light that's hitting his face just irks me. I wanted to give him a rim and a side light so as to not lose any bits of him to the background, but the side light is to hot and kind of blows out some details. In hindsight I would have backed that light up and put it waaaay behind him so it just rakes across his whole side.

Great shot! I love the really graphic feel to it, and super-clean composition. You're definitely on the right track with the lighting.
one thing to try would be a second rim light on the left, but as you said, more from the back than the side. also, try lowering the power on rim lights, since they're shooting right at the camera they can often be a few stops down from the key light.
