shot this today - nothing huge, but the thought was to emphasize the skier and his outerwear. the only thing that seems to be bugging me is that his skis are not fully parallel.

I think you caught him a split second too early. and I know its much easier said than done but if youre going to use flash in this situation you might want to think about lighting up the entire scene a little more rather than just a bare flash on his back, then snow feels a little on the underexposed side.

It all most looks like 'selective colour' because of how vibrant the skier is compared to the rest of the shot. The end of his ski disappears into the tree, if you didn't tell me about the skis not being parallel i doubt i would of ever noticed. I also agree that a tad later would of done the shot more justice.
