I feel like I've nailed the lighting on this shot. At the same time the comp on this shot is pretty standard for wake and I can't figure out if the lighting is enough to make it good. Timing is a little early, It would be nice to see his face.

I'm way stoked this worked out, it's pretty difficult to shoot wake at night due to focusing issues and to top it off I'm shooting from a tube floating in the lake that the boat is driving the double ups around.

Thoughts?

Great job with the focus and exposure. I agree, I would like to see more of his face.

With the faint colours in the sky, I would be curious to see how this would turn out as a sunset shoot to really bring out those colours

I'd also love to see a second flash in the opposit direction, so we could get the outline of the rider. but I have no idea how you'd get that there.

holy shit, i couldn't even imagine the difficulty of shooting with flashes in the water
i commend you

if i wasn't factoring the hardness of shooting this photo i would say..

looks soft, might be your flash durations are to slow (what strobes you using?)
could use some light on the right of him maybe a stop brighter than your main to make him pop out of that background

and i think horizontal would have looked better

still a good shot though, really loving the water and the redish color that's coming off of it

You nailed the lighting and the angle, looks great, but a solid grab would make it much better. I don't think you need another flash, but maybe a bit more ambient light? NIce work

I sent you an email Essex too

That's an impressive undertaking. Very cool. When you nail the timing you've got a banger.

Thanks for the input everyone.
Chris, I think it just got a little soft in compression, I'm shooting with 2 AB 800s in this shot

I think you did really well considering the conditions! I would crop more though, too much water in the foreground.
