I just saw this "new" Ranger system. I know a bunch of you use Elinchrom gear, what do you think? Would this be a sensible place to start with portable studio lighting?

I figure it works out about the same price as even a speed-light set-up, once you have bought pocketwizards and a few high end strobes.

the flash durations look to be way too slow for a good output at full power.. the specifications are only t0.5 instead of t0.1 but compared to the Ranger A heads that I think most of the action sports photogs use, these don't look like a good buy:

Flash duration (t 0,5) QuaDRa heads / MAX. POWER:

A Output (100%) 1/1300
B Output (33%) 1/3200
A+B Output (100%) 1/1800


Flash duration (t 0,5) RANGER A heads / MAX. POWER:
A Output (100%) 1/3000
B Output (33%) 1/6000
A+B Output (100%) 1/4000

putting the numbers in perspective helps a lot, I will do a lot more research when I am seriously in the market.

Brian, are those the numbers for the S Head or the A head. I couldn't find any details at B&H for the flash durations but in the video Scott talks about two heads S and A? Thanks just curious.
