Action Sports Cartel

I just wanted to know from those who use the ranger system - how much do you use it outside of action images? Is it something you use on most portrait shoots or do you save it for certain occasions?

Also what light modifiers do you tend to use? Do you bring out the umbrellas or the, somewhat expensive, Elinchrom boxes?

I haven't had mine for too long, but it has become my go-to-flash. I use it for everything, but that might also be because I only got 2x Vivitars and 1x 580EXII.
The Ranger fires when I want it to fire, the lightning output is great, the recharge-time is great(I got the Speed pack) - so no, I don't 'save' it

Don't have any boxes for it yet, but I got the Varistar umbrella which comes with the kit. But it's all bent out of shape, (Tommy Larsen's fault!! ;-P)
I'm mostly using a cheap reflecting umbrella, and one white for shoot-through. Don't do too much portraits and stuff yet, so I haven't put any money into expensive softboxes etc.

For actionsports, I use the standard 45 degree reflector, and the 11" sportsreflector.

I've had mine for a little over a month now. It was originally intended for sports action, but I find myself using it for everything. I love the power when I need it, and that I can dial it down if need be.

I bought the unit that didn't have the extra battery/case/umbrella, because I knew I'd end up selling the case and not using the umbrella too often. I took the savings and bought the 53' Octabox and it's been awesome.

I've also picked up a 7', 8' and 11' reflector. I also got a set of Speedotron Barndoors for the 7' for use with gels on commercial interior stuff.
