Just bought myself some vivitar 285HV's the only problem is they dont plug straight into Pocket Wizard plus II's. LAME!!!!
peep this link and tell me what you think of this idea??
I have looked into hot shoe adapters and alternate cables, but im down with this idea beacuse you never have to worry about pc sync end poppin out like they seem to do!!!!
Thanx

I had a 285 shoe snap off because I'm always biking around with it on a stand strapped to my pack - quick way to destroy equipment. so I bought a metal shoe to replace it (google can tell you where to get one) which at least has a female PC connector, so you don't have to deal with the special vivitar connector, PC, and 1/8 all at the same time. if you just want an easy fix though, check this site out, they have tons of cables: www.flashzebra.com/
I thought about the metal shoe after I just broke a plastic one. When I thought further I thought it was likely better to have a plastic shoe break than the body of the flash if I changed to a metal foot. I bought a handful of spare plastic feet for very cheap. I've only broke 1 in 3 years of using Vivitar 285's, and they've fallen over a fair bit.
Check out the link for flashzebra for a cable. I think it's the best option.

I'm loving the idea of not having to worry about having cables, or cables falling out or becoming loose. I hate that proprietary jack, it never feels solid. I usually use hotshoe adapters with 1/8th jacks anyway. This is a great idea, I'm gonna do this for sure.
Where's my soldering iron..

So I finally got around to doing this, and it's frustrating as hell, but that's only because I'm shit at soldering and I used a ptex iron, haha!
Otherwise it works great. Even did a couple flashes with the metal shoes. They're way easier and have more room to work with too. Weird how the metal shoes don't use the green and white wires, and you can't just tie up your + wire to the white, you actually use the red that's soldered to the metal shoe.. Anyway, that's confusing.
Thanks!
