Underwater Housing 2 Years, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
Hey ya'll

anyone got a line on some good cheap housing? I have a D90 body with a grip and a transmitter and a fairly big lens so I am thinking it would have to be a custom job. I tried to mssg Matt Roy about this directly but apparently you cant do that?
Anyway if anybody could point me in the right direction it would be appreciated, I would like to get it for an upcoming trip in to south east asia. I am hoping to get some surf, snorkel and caving photos.

I have been checking out some canon powershot g7's with housing online. not the same quality but a much cheaper substitute.

thoughts, ideas and comments appreciated.

cheers

Evan, There is a guy in Winter Haven Fl, Jim Bailey if I remember his website is www.waterhousings.com It cost me about 1100, I have room for my pocket wz, flash and two ports one for my fish and one for the 28-135. If I was to do it again I would have gone with a more expensive setup so I could have full control of my camera. All I have is a trigger, so you need to set up everything prior to shooting. I have been extremely happy with the housing and I know there are a bunch of guys who use his products in the wakeboarding industry. The other thing is that you have to send him all your gear so he can custom fit everything so be prepared to be without your gear for at least a week or so.

I thought about getting a g10 with a housing, around 600 for the whole set up as an extra setup, shoot raw and manual not a bad way to go and much cheaper. email me if you have any other questions. matthewroy@mac.com

If you are looking for a cheaper solution look around for an Olympus E300 and housing. You should be able to find this setup for a steal since its a older camera. I kept my 2 E300 bodies in the hopes of finding the housing, I have not been trying very hard but always watching out for it.

If you are really looking for something lighter and willing to invest a little looking into the Olympus E-p1 or E-P2 and the housing they are making for the Micro 4/3 systems. I am not a diver but something like the E-P2 with the 50mm f2 on the front and the size of the screen on the back for composing your shots and seeing your menus would make for a killer kit. Toss in a FL-36 flash might be nice too!

I hope this helps.

spl water housing are pretty dam good, aswell as essex waterhousings.

They are both cheap, well compared to the like of aquatech, but then they are far superior in quality.

I know spl do custom housings.
