A friend asked me to shoot a couple models in dresses she's made. I got pretty nervous because I've never really done anything like this before, but it worked out better than I'd expected. Any critiques would be great!

Maybe too much headroom in this one, and I think my light on the front of the girl in red should have been a stop or two brighter.

I hate that pilon at the end of the tracks..

Is that light on the mountain in the background distracting?

Again too much headroom, maybe too centered overall?

Thanks!

i think my biggest beef with the 2 in the forest is the choice of lighting, some warming gels, and a power setting closer to the ambient probably would have made it look more natural

for the first one, because we tend to read left to right, my eye always wants to go to the out of focus chick first...if you're going to include two subjects like that, better to have the main subject on the left side, or both of them in focus in a complimentary way...

Or light so that the subject in focus is a little bit brighter than the bg. In this case I think the girl in the bg is a bit brighter. I think you can do a lot with this image in Lightroom/Photoshop... I've seen worse run full page in fashion mags... but next time straight out the camera throw some softboxes on the lights, warm em up a bit and I think you will have a solid image. tk

This is great! Thanks for all the input..

Brian, I see what you mean about being too bright vs the ambient, and I wish I'd thought of some nice warm filters too..

Colin, I never thought about the reading right-to-left thing, that makes sense though, I'm going to keep that in mind in the future.

Tim, the bg girl is definitely brighter, my biggest regret about the whole shoot is not turning up the flash left of the camera on the girl in red.

Thanks guys! I'm glad I didn't completely blow it.

Just trying to show that I think you could/should have done more post to the images before you posted. Lots of cool things you could do with the shot. tk

Haha man, you procrastinate with the best of em!

I did do some b&w with a few of the photos, I hesitate posting them here because someone always says "I'd love to see the full-colour version blah blah..."

How'd you do that in Lightroom? If you don't mind me asking..
